Last week I had the delight of spending the day with the crew at The Chef's Plate while they filmed their latest episode. The Chef's Plate is a weekly half-hour show that features local restaurants, chefs, bakeries, as well as food and drink related businesses from all over New England. It airs on Saturday afternoons on WBIN-TV to households throughout New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine.
We started the day with a full shoot at Kume Japanese Steakhouse in Epping and then moved throughout the Seacoast of New Hampshire for quick stops at The Old Salt Restaurant and Hagan's Grill of Hampton and Cornucopia Wine and Cheese Market in Exeter.
It was very interesting to follow Earl Studios' Jeremy Earl Mayhew and host of the show, Helen Ryba, as they walked themselves through the needed bits for the half hour show airing on Saturday May, 3rd. It always amazes me the amount of work that goes into a production like this. The length of film needed to produce a show of this length is a bit staggering, from b-roll to interviews and everything in between. Then traveling between sites, trying to stay on schedule and keep everyone happy while doing so. It's not for the faint of heart. Yet somehow they always find a way to pull it off. To always pull a masterful show together, representing the best restaurants and chefs New England has to offer. I was only around for the filming, the real magic happens after the shoot when it's pulled through the editing phases, combining the b-roll and interviews to showcase the food, chefs and restaurants in a cohesive and masterfully delicious way. I look forward to seeing the final product when the episode airs on WBIN.
Of course, given Mayeu Meals propensity toward great food, I was also very excited about each stops offerings. Snapping photos, sampling food and talking with the chefs and bartenders about their contributions. However, I'll share the finer details about the great food with you separately, in upcoming posts. Stay tuned for more to come...
